Colin Farrell: 5 Awesome Performances and 5 That Sucked

1. In Bruges (2008)

If we€™re looking at Colin Farrell€™s best performances (which we are, obviously) then are you really surprised that his turn in In Bruges, Martin McDonagh€™s pitch black comedy about two hapless Irish hitmen, found its way into the top spot? Farrell is so comfortable in this role it almost feels like he€™s playing himself; his true self that is, not that rugged, marketable bad boy you see in from photo-shoots, but the sensitive Irish lad that figured out a way to do what he loves. Sometimes Farrell seems to coast his way through certain roles (more on that shortly), but here he really turns it on, delivering his total A-game. He€™s a whirlwind of different emotions and switches between them like you might expect a hired murderer to; he€™s dark but witty, smoulderingly magnetic but managing to still conveying a child-like vulnerability that makes his character, Ray, impossible not to root for. In Bruges came out amidst rumours of personal problems and after a slew of questionable performances his next move really could have been considered make-or-break. Looks like Farrell chose wisely, and with In Bruges he once again reaffirmed himself as Hollywood A-list material.
