Comic Book vs Film: How Avengers: Infinity War Is Already Different
9. The History Of Thanos And Titan
In The Comics:
In the comics, Titan was an advanced planet which achieved much scientifically and socially, including the pinnacle of their acievements - the ISAAC computer system that monitored and maintained the planet's life support systems. It was also a haven for peace until Thanos was born to leader A'lars and grew up as a mutant with dark visions of conquest.
He left, recruited an army of mercenaries and returned to attack his homeland, killing all but 100 of Titan's thousands of inhabitants. They eventually rebuilt it as a peaceful place dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge.
Thanos also has a brother - Eros - who he abducts and tortures during the events of Infinity Gauntlet. Basically just for fun.
In The Film:
Thanos will be a mutant, which - according to Josh Brolin - impacts his sanity, but his backstory is noticeably different to the comics beyond that. Rather than him destroying his fellow Titans through war, it seems from his bio description that Thanos tragically watches them and his planet go extinct:
“He’s from a planet called Titan that’s no longer inhabited because of things that he thought he could help prevent, and he was not allowed to do that. What he feared most happened, and the planet and everybody on it basically went extinct. He vowed not to let that happen again. He thinks he sees the universe going down the tubes. He thinks he sees life expanding outward unchecked. That will bring ruin, he believes, to the universe and to that life.”
In other words, there's no life on Titan and no other Titans alive. So don't expect to see Eros either.
