Comic Con 2014: 10 Biggest Rumours‏

10. Dredd 2 Will Be Confirmed

LionsgateLionsgateWe here at WhatCulture love Dredd. No seriously, we love Dredd. A character with such a long and storied history as 2000 AD's flagship lawmaker deserved a lot better than his previous screen adaptation, 1995's execrable Judge Dredd, where Sylvester Stallone had the chin down pat and...well, everything else was drokkin' awful. So 2012's reboot was a breath of fresh, resyked air, with a brilliant script by Danny Boyle's mate Alex Garland and some gorgeous, gory visuals by director Pete Travis. Best of all though: Dredd kept his helmet on. And the guy beneath the helmet, Karl Urban, was absolutely perfect casting. He had the gruff exterior, the gravelly voice and - most importantly - the chin. Brilliant though it was, Dredd didn't exactly set the box office alight; it's certainly done better on DVD and streaming sites, but it was never the hit it deserved to be. We've been pulling for a sequel ever since, and 2000 AD themselves have lead a campaign to get one made that's been supported by Urban, but we've heard nothing official. There have been unconfirmed reports on various websites that SDCC will be the place that an official announcement will take place. Some are claiming that the sequel has already been put into pre-production, and that DNA Films is confident enough in the film that they'll be revealing both its existence and release date at the con. Likelihood: Low. There has been absolutely zero talk about Dredd 2 going into production from anyone, and the site that has carried the story originally also farted out that nonsense about Deadpool. Sadly looks like a cynical grab at website hits, but hope springs eternal in us Earthlets.
