Comic-Con 2019: 10 Biggest Reveals You Need To See
3. Star Trek: Picard Will Feature Data, Seven Of Nine, Riker, Troi & The Borg
The first full trailer for Amazon's upcoming Star Trek: Picard confirmed that the series will be doubling down on fan service, by revealing the presence of both The Next Generation's Data (Brent Spiner) and Voyager's Seven of Nine (Geri Ryan).
Given that Data sacrificed himself to save Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) back in 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis, his return is certainly a big surprise for fans - and one that went down a treat with the Trek faithful. Fingers crossed it's not just a dream sequence, though.
And if that's not awesome enough, it was also confirmed that several other TNG alums will be making appearances.
Jonathan Frakes will reprise the role of Riker in addition to directing an episode of the series, while Marina Sirtis will return as Deanna Troi, and Jonathan Del Arco is also back as Hugh the Borg.
The fear that Picard will be nothing more than lazy nostalgia is palpable, though creator Alex Kurtzman said in a recent interview, "What we don't want to do is just throw in cameos...There would have to be an incredibly specific story reason [for them to be there]."
Kurtzman may be a maddeningly inconsistent writer, but from the little this trailer gives us, there's hope that Picard will give Stewart's beloved captain a fitting final victory lap.
Star Trek: Picard is set to release in early 2020.
