Comic-Con regular Kevin Smith dropped by to reveal the first trailer for the upcoming Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, a three-minute reel of extremely R-rated banter, celebrity cameos and intensely self-aware fan service.

A sequel to not only Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back but effectively also Smith's entire "Askewniverse", the film is bringing as many of the franchise's stars back as possible, even if only for small cameo appearances.

Though most of these roles were confirmed long ago, the big surprise was the presence of Ben Affleck, who will be reprising his Holden McNeil role for a scene where he reportedly crosses paths with Chasing Amy co-star Joey Lauren Adams.

Matt Damon is also briefly visible in the trailer, seemingly reprising the role of Loki he played so masterfully in arguably Smith's best film, Dogma.

While it's fair to say the juvenile humour doesn't all land in the trailer, the premise - where Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) try to stop a Bluntman and Chronic reboot from getting made - is hilarious.

One suspects the sheer wink-wink charm might be enough to compensate for some of the dodgy writing. Fingers crossed, anyway.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot releases on October 15.
