The Angry Birds Movie was a sizable box office hit back in 2016, enough that a sequel was swiftly produced in 2019. 

However, with the Angry Birds brand already firmly waning by that point, The Angry Birds Movie 2 hugely underperformed commercially, grossing less than half of what its predecessor did, seemingly bringing this short-lived movie series to a natural end.

But in June 2024, Angry Birds creator Rovio announced the The Angry Birds Movie 3 was now in development, with lead voice actors Jason Sudeikis and Josh Gad expected to return.

The threequel is currently pencilled in to release on December 23rd of this year, with the wider ensemble voice cast including a returning Rachel Bloom and Danny McBride alongside Emma Myers, Keke Palmer, Lily James, Tim Robinson, Sam Richardson, Nikki Glaser, MrBeast, and many more.

Considering the poor performance of the previous film, the world as a whole moving on from Angry Birds, and the likelihood that this one makes even less money, it's truly surprising that this sequel actually got made at all.
