20 Announced Movie Sequels That Are FINALLY Happening

Hocus Pocus 2 is another one of those belated comedy sequels that many fans simply believed would never actually get made, and yet, almost 30 years after the original film, it finally landed on Disney+.

It wasn't great, but honestly, was that really the point? The film was a colossal viewership hit for Disney regardless, enough that a threequel swiftly entered development, with leads Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy enthusiastic to return.

Even though it was continually reiterated that Hocus Pocus 3 was a priority for Disney, Parker herself described development as "slow" last year, and reports emerged of prolonged salary negotiations with the main cast.

And so, this seemed like another well-intentioned sequel that just might not ever happen, especially with Midler now being 80 years of age.

But at the start of May Hocus Pocus 3 was formally announced, with deals worked out for Midler, Parker, and Najimy to return, while the film will be releasing theatrically unlike its predecessor.

No word on a release date yet, but it sounds like shooting could very well get underway this year.
