The fifth Ice Age film, Ice Age: Collision Course, was a major box office disappointment, signalling to many that audience fatigue had finally set in and it was time to put the franchise out to pasture.

With the closure of original animation outfit Blue Sky Studios in 2021 and Disney's decision to produce new Ice Age content for Disney+, it seemed like the mainline series was deader than disco.

In November 2024 it was nevertheless confirmed that a sixth theatrically released film was happening, with Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Simon Pegg, and Queen Latifah set to lend their voices once again.

By summer 2025, the title was confirmed to be Ice Age: Boiling Point, while the release date is currently set for February 5, 2027.

It's easy to think "enough already," but the film will be nothing if not a test of the franchise's staying power after all these years.
