Crimson Peak: 15 Reasons To Be Excited

6. The Costume Design

For such a grand, handsomely dressed production, it might come as a shock to hear Crimson Peak only has a budget of $55 million. Whilst the actual base of the film looks entirely staggering (more on that later), the secret behind such aesthetic grace comes down to the more practical assets: namely ambient lighting, frame composition, and most importantly, costume design. Essentially this is a period film - yes it merges across a number of alternate genres, but it is set in yesteryear - and thus must display as such. Long serving costume craftswoman Kate Hawley has wrapped the cast in sumptuously devised and detailed threads that brilliantly projects the era as well as the lingering atmosphere the auteur's lens is forming. The clothes are equally classic and tragic; beautiful and horrifying. She's currently busy working on David Ayer's DC villain extravaganza Suicide Squad so we are sure many fans will be celebrating her efforts long into 2016.
