20 Movies Critics HATE But Audiences LOVE
17. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
Another hit video game adaptation that was totally impervious to critical scorn now, with Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
The first film didn't get much love from reviewers (33%) but evidently satisfied its primarily teenage audience, leading to a viewer approval rating of 86%.
And the deficit between critics and audiences grew massively for the second film, which was panned into the Earth's core by most reviewers (16%), who felt it was a nonsensical, not-scary, overlong mess that doubled down on basically everything they disliked about the original.
But fans liked it pretty much the same, given its 83% audience score, resulting in a staggering difference of 67% between critics and viewers.
Considering the two films have grossed well over $500 million worldwide, Universal and Blumhouse are surely totally unconcerned about the critical hate - a trend that's probably unlikely to change with the in-development Five Nights at Freddy’s 3.
