9. The Extended Face Smash - Obsession
Of all the many, many unforgettable moments in Obsession, perhaps the single hardest to shake is the nauseating sequence where Bear's (Michael Johnston) co-worker Sarah (Megan Lawless) is attacked by a murderously obsessed Nikki (Inde Navarrette).
More to the point, Nikki smashes the car window with a brick and then repeatedly slams Sarah's face into said brick until she's no more.
It's a shockingly grisly scene as it stands, but following the film's release filmmaker Curry Barker revealed that Sarah's demise was originally far more prolonged.
When Barker submitted Obsession to the MPA, Sarah's death had "six or seven more smashes," prompting the certification board to advise that it would receive an NC-17 rating in this form.
And considering that NC-17 is basically the commercial kiss of death for movies where box office is concerned, of course Barker and his team pared the moment down.
Honestly, the moment is unbearably brutal enough in its current form - another six or seven hits might've been a bit too much for many.
