DC Extended Universe: 5 Best & 5 Worst Characters Introduced In 2016
1. Jimmy Olsen (Batman v Superman)

Had the photographer/undercover CIA agent accompanying Lois Lane in Africa who was killed off at the start of Batman v Superman been just a random character, no one would've batted an eye. In fact, no one really did bat an eye, because the character was never named in the film, his death carried no weight, and the film rolled on, leaving it up to the closing credits to reveal to the audience that the character they had seen executed was none other than Jimmy Olsen.
Many characters have come and gone throughout Superman's history since his debut back in 1938, but thanks to decades of pop culture status, there are a few who have always - and will always - be associated with the character that seemingly everyone and their mother can recognize on name alone, like Ma and Pa Kent, Lois Lane, Perry White, and, of course, Superman's pal Jimmy.
Now, no one's arguing that Jimmy needed a huge role in the DCEU; the issue is that his role is so dismissive of over 75 years of history that it's somewhat insulting, with his death even being described, essentially, as "fun" by director Zack Snyder. It's anything but, and if those involved believed that they didn't have room for the character in the DCEU, they might as well have left him out completely instead of executing him just for the hell of it.
