DC's "Phase 2" To Include Man Of Steel 2, But Cyborg May Be Cancelled

Get ready for New Gods, Birds Of Prey and Crime Syndicate movies too.

DC Phase 2
DC/Warner Bros.

As sagas go, the ongoing question of whether Warner Bros and DC will actually make Man Of Steel 2 is up there with Ross and Rachel in Friends. At times it's looked like the sequel was nailed on with George Miller over-zealously attached by some rumour-mongers, but so far it's been radio silence.

But now, a rumour courtesy of 4chan (serious grain of salt warning here) says that DC are planning to make Man Of Steel 2 alongside some interesting "Phase 2" movies.

If that leaker is to be believed, we're going to see the Superman sequel alongside Suicide Squad 2, the rumoured Birds of Prey project that Margot Robbie brought to Warner Bros, Crime Syndicate and New Gods. Unfortunately, the Cyborg film has been cancelled, with the character for now limited to his team-up in the Flash solo outing.

As stated, it's something to be suspicious of at the minute, but Suicide Squad 2 and Birds Of Prey sound about right. The decision to adapt New Gods and Crime Syndicate would be far more unexpected (but then bravery is not to be criticised). It's a shame about Cyborg, but there have been whispers of that happening before, and hopefully his sharing top-billing in The Flash will more than make up for it before we potentially see his own movie at a later date.

Sadly for reasonable fans, Zack Snyder has previously said he'd consider a Man Of Steel sequel, though any talk was moth-balled while Batman v Superman was in production;

I think if we could get a good script it would be great to have a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do... Part of the reason we havent announced the standalone Superman movie was to support some of the events of (Dawn of Justice).

Henry Cavill too seemed to think that Man Of Steel 2 wasn't possible with the way the DC universe was being mapped out:

I do believe it depends upon the success of this movie. If this goes well then we can start to negotiate with Warner Bros. to develop a standalone Superman, but theyve got their plan set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies. Its about finding the time really. Its something I would be very keen to do."

But perhaps that's all changed now. Personally, I would be delighted to see a sequel - in the right hands: Henry Cavill is a great Superman, even if he's been saddled with terrible material at times, and there's no doubting the appeal of the character. Again, it MUST be done the right way: there's no sense bringing in a director who will deconstruct the Man of Steel further, or who will be bogged down by grit and grimness.

In that respect, it's a shame George Miller can't be convinced, because his Superman would be incredible.
