Doctor Strange: 10 Villains Mads Mikkelsen Could Be Playing
4. Asmodeus
More so than a physical embodiment of Satannish, one of his famous servants could make much more sense in a film like this. Dr. Charles Benton was once a colleague of Strange’s when he was still practicing medicine. And just as Strange went off to the mountains to find power, Benton also sought mystical gains for himself. Selling his soul for power, he joined the Sons of Satannish and became Asmodeus.
Named after the Greek king of demons, this cult follower works as a dark mirror to Strange and could likewise be adapted to work as a spurned rival of the Ancient One, who has defected to a new source of power. He wields magic just as Strange does and his spellcasting could easily have been glimpsed in the trailer already.
Asmodeus’s exploits also make sense for the plot of the film. He looks to gather powerful occult artifacts, particularly the Book Of Vishanti, which he used to summon the fire demon Surtur. Marvel loves their MacGuffins and searching for the book could make for a simple storyline.
So long as they tweak the character’s ultimate aspirations to summon someone else, perhaps more fittingly Satannish, Asmodeus would make a lot of sense for Mikkelsen.
