Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness: 10 Major New Details You Need To Know
1. It Won't Be Marvel's First Horror Movie After All
After Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson teased that the sequel would be Marvel Studios' first horror movie, many fans were left fuming when Kevin Feige clarified that during last year's Comic-Con.
This led to headlines like "Is Marvel Afraid To Make Doctor Strange In the Multiverse Of Madness A Horror Movie?" and "Marvel Fans Furious Over Doctor Strange 2 News: 'They’re Too Afraid To Make A Horror Film,'" as well as criticisms that Marvel Studios would never think outside the box. As you might expect, there has also been speculation that it's what led to Derrickson walking away from the film.
Feige's exact quote was, "I wouldn’t necessarily say that’s a horror film, but...it’ll be a big MCU film with scary sequences in it." That doesn't sound too bad, but it's hard to say what it actually means! Ultimately, it seems as if Marvel Studios is reluctant to go down the horror root for fear of putting the expected PG-13 rating at risk, and that's somewhat understandable for a blockbuster like this one.
Still, it's hard not to be disappointed in some ways, but Raimi seems as good a choice as any to come up with some inventive horror sequences given his work on Evil Dead and Drag Me To Hell.
