To mark the birthday of Orange is the New Black and Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne, original Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Scott Derrickson recently Tweeted out his well wishes. However, he also revealed that they met last year and "talked about the multiverse."

In case you can't read between the lines, that's obviously a reference to her being someone he considered casting in the sequel. Clea is certainly one compelling possibility for who she could have ended up playing, but many comic book fans are convinced they met to discuss Nightmare.

There has been chatter about a gender swapped version of Nightmare appearing in the film for a while, with Eva Green - who has denied ever meeting with Marvel Studios - one rumoured possibility. There's nothing to say Raimi will head in that direction (or that the villain is even in the latest draft of the script), but Lyonne would be a surprising and inventive choice of foe for Benedict Cumberbatch's hero!
