Doctor Strange: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best
11. Jonathan Pangborn
When Benjamin Bratt was added to the cast of Doctor Strange quietly, it was assumed it would be playing an interesting character who would have some substantial impact on the plot - thanks to his billing and previous record of quality. Sadly, he's little more than a glorified pamphlet on spiritual healing.
He basically acts as a glorified travel agent, showing off his fully working spine in a game of urban basketball and hints vaguely at the mystical healing method that got him back on his feet and dunking hoops. Unfortunately, he's then rather sadly undermined by the fact that Strange's wonderment at his revival lasts all of six minutes, as he forgets both what he's seen and the fact that he lives in a world where Thor, Hulk and Loki all exist and becomes a cynic when presented with the idea of "Eastern medicine".
He is redeemed somewhat by his inclusion in the post-credits stinger, but even then he's no more than a narrative function (serving to set Mordo on his magical clean-up mission) and he brings very little individual substance to the table.
