Dune Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

1. The Incredible Sound Design

The other major incentive to watch Dune in cinemas is the utterly thunderous sound design.

No other film released this year touts a sound mix so utterly designed to place you in its world - the heavy, intrusive bass as ships land and take off alone is something few can replicate at home.

Dune's sound team likely have a clear path to the Best Sound Oscar next year, because in almost every single moment, the soundscape is utterly meticulously crafted to accentuate the visuals.

Sure, you can ding it slightly because there are a few moments where dialogue is scarcely audible amid the bombast of it all, though this certainly isn't a Tenet situation, and for the most part the rich sound design only enhances the film's thick atmosphere.
