Dwayne Johnson Says CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS Movie Role Would Be 'Bad Ass'

If MTV interviewers are good at anything, it€™s drawing actors into wild speculation about what they might like to do at some stage in the future and attempt to spin this as though it were a real story. The channel€™s website is littered with such incidents and there can be none that typify this is so well as their most recent interview with Dwayne €œThe Rock€ Johnson. Though, in this instance, the link- in cultural terms- seems a wholly credible one as if pro-wrestlers and computer games have anything in common is that they almost exclusively provide a basis for terrible films. Dwayne Johnson should, and probably is, aware of this; and, also, in his interview demonstrated a certain awareness of his abilities as an actor. While discussing the horrible film version of classic 3D shooter Doom, Johnson was asked his opinion on what sort of computer game he would most like to adapt in future, he replied:
"I think if the right one came along. I thought we had an opportunity with 'DOOM.' Didn't work out the way we wanted it to, creatively. But yeah, if the right opportunity came along and the script is good, sure." €€ Black Ops,' that'd be bad ass. Let's make it happen, let's do it€€ that and 'Black Swan 2.'"
The Call of Duty franchise is certainly successful one, with a multitude of best-selling games and brand-recognition, and €œThe Rock€ would appear to possess the sort of old fashioned action persona that would be appropriate to the adaptation. However, some fans of the game have reacted to hostility at the notion of Johnson starring in any such film- even though the sometimes wrestler was plainly only engaged in some wishful thinking- citing the failure of Doom as evidence for their skepticism. Whatever such ardent computer game fans expect from their leading thespians is unclear, and MTV haven€™t taken it upon themselves to ask the likes of Max Von Sydow or Robert De Niro their opinions (though, if recent history is anything to go by, the latter would probably be up for it). Black Ops fans can rest easy in the knowledge that no concrete plans exist for a Call of Duty adaptation and, as we reported recently, The Rock€™s immediate future is not only taken up by pro-wrestling but a leading role in The Snitch. Darren Aronofsky has not commented on the possibility of Black Swan 2 or whether he would be interested in the former WWE Champion making an appearance.
