Each Member Of The Fellowship Of The Ring Ranked Worst To Best
6. Merry Brandybuck
It is a shame that Merry - Played by Dominic Monaghan - doesn't get the chance to rank higher in this list. Merry acts as a display of what a hobbit's spirit is capable of, but the limitations that their stature can achieve. No other hobbit matches Merry when it comes to his spirit.
If you disagree with this statement, you need only look at his motivation for fighting to see how Merry is one of the most underrated characters in the series. Each hobbit ends up being in some way bound to the mission. Frodo's fate is tied to the ring, and Sam is tied to Frodo, Pippin has a connection with the Palantir. Merry is not only free to leave the cause whenever he wants, but actively told that he should, yet he stays and fights because he wants to help defend Middle Earth.
He also acts well as an idea man. It is clear from the beginning that Merry is calm under pressure, we see him take Sam and Frodo to the Buckleberry ferry to reach Bree, showing early on his significant contribution to the cause. If he had the fighting skills of a warrior, he would be far higher on the list.
