Edgar Wright's Ant Man Test Footage Shown

Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) spent all week using Twitter to stress to all his followers that he was in London and not in San Diego for Comic-Con. As it turned out, most guessed that with the constant comments about London, he was probably in San Diego and had an announcement to make....and they were right. Edgar Wright made a ''surprise'' appearance in Hall H to announce that he was already working on a big screen adaption of Marvel's Ant Man. Anyone unfamiliar with Ant Man, he is the superhero persona of scientist Henry Pym, who invents a substance that allows him to change his size at will. Making the announcement, Wright joked about the slow development of the film and that he was taking the ''Terrence Malick approach,'' in reference to the famously slow paced film maker;

"Hello gang. I was tweeting that I was in London earlier, but I just bounced here. Wrong movie, wrong studio. We talked about it in 2006 and I'm taking the Terrence Malick approach. It's something that we have continued to work on. When I was very young I read a reprint of Man in the Ant Hill from 'Tales to Astonish.' I always felt there was a great film to be made out of it."

Wright also brought along some test footage that he put together to show studio bosses the look and feel of the film. The footage hasn't found it's way on to the internet yet but here is a written description of what was screened.

It begins with two agents in shades standing at the end of a long white corridor. Hiding behind an air vent is Ant Man wearing a mask and a red and black suit. He jumps through the vent, changes to normal size and runs at the agents. As they pull out their guns, Ant Man changes back to a smaller size, leaps into the mouth of one of the agents and knocks him out. He then grabs the tie of the other and throws him out of the window. Ant Man then changes back to normal size, enters an elevator and zaps back to ant size.

Despite it only being described as test footage and ''normal size'' - Ant Man was a stuntman with visible wires, the audience loved it and were left wanting more. Co-written by Wright and Joe Cornish ("Attack The Block"), there are high hopes for this film even though no one has been cast and no release date penciled in. Wright ended with the statement that;

"Ant-Man will kick your ass, an inch at a time."
