Elizabeth Banks: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Gina Morrison - Meet Dave

Ugh. Meet Dave was one of the latter-day high concept Eddie Murphy comedies, the movies he only signed on for because there was a massive cheque involved. In the film he plays dual roles; one being a life-sized robot that is being piloted by tiny aliens, while the other is the captain controlling the movements. The robot has to walk around New York and learn to mimic humans, which paves the way for a lot of stale comedy. When Banks accidently runs the robot over they form a friendship, with the aliens learning to understand human relationships from her. Gina is one of those thankless love interest parts that seemingly every actress has to play at some point. She plays second fiddle to Murphy€™s antics, whose mugging needs to dominate every scene. It can€™t even be said that she€™s the best thing about it, as she doesn€™t even try to inject something interesting into the role. She€™s perfectly happy to let Murphy do his thing, while all she can do is react like she€™s in a bad sitcom. Meet Dave is a comedy that she €“ like everyone else €“ is better off forgetting about.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
