Every 2018 Oscar Nominee Ranked From Worst To Best

19. The Disaster Artist

The Disaster Artist James Franco Dave Franco
A24

Nominations: 1 - Best Adapted Screenplay

It's entirely possible The Disaster Artist could've scored a few more nominations had sexual assault allegations against James Franco not torpedoed most of the film's awards campaign, but on its own terms, this drama focused on the creation of Tommy Wiseau's cult hit The Room is hilarious and heartfelt.

Though the film takes shameless liberties with the truth, Franco's frighteningly spot-on performance as Wiseau is hysterical, the bromance between Wiseau and Greg Sestero (Dave Franco) is genuinely poignant, and the loving recreations of sequences from the actual movie are shockingly note-perfect.

Far more dramatically potent than just about anyone could've expected a film about the making of The Room to be, The Disaster Artist is a classic movie about the filmmaking craft.
