Nominations: 5 - Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects

If Roger Deakins doesn't win the Best Cinematography award for Blade Runner 2049 - which would be his 14th nomination without a win - the Internet is going to lose its s***.

Blade Runner 2049 is a rare sequel that not only lives up to seemingly impossible expectations: it arguably exceeds them with a follow-up that's at least as good if not better than Ridley Scott's 1982 original.

Preserving the mystique of its predecessor while building on the mythology in provocative and fascinating ways, director Denis Villeneuve and his majestic cast have delivered an intoxicating masterpiece of a sci-fi tone poem, a peerlessly stylish film with plenty of smarts to boot.

Some may consider it too slow or ambiguous, but for those enraptured by it, there was nothing better this past year. Is it obnoxious to consider it "too good for the Oscars"? Maybe, but that's what we're going with.

How would you rate this year's Oscar nominees? Shout them out in the comments!
