Every Adam Sandler Movie Ranked By How Punchable Adam Sandler Is
21. Funny People
It's tough to allow yourself to feel good about wanting to clobber someone who has cancer, but Judd Apatow made it startlingly easy once the movie drags itself across the finish line two and a half hours later.
Sandler is at his absolute smuggest as a self-loathing comic who just received a very bad prognosis. The hijinks, as you would imagine, are a bit scattershot after that.
It's not that Sandler isn't funny in this movie - although his stand-up routines are more than a little rough - it's that his costar, Seth Rogen, who's playing a character supposedly much less funny than Sandler's professional comic, outshines him in most of their scenes together.
Sandler didn't bring his A game, and although Apatow tried his best to cover for him, he still comes off pretty weak in the end.
Punch Level: Just a smattering of jabs, but only because I feel bad about the fictitious cancer diagnosis.
