Every Best Picture Oscar Winner Ranked Worst To Best

84. Green Book (2018)

One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
Universal Pictures

During one of the most diverse Oscar ceremonies ever produced, the Academy decided to award Best Picture to one of the weakest nominees, Green Book, which beat the likes of Roma, A Star Is Born, and even Black Panther to the top prize.

It’s not bad by any stretch - Mahershala Ali’s turn as pianist Don Shirley is truly a masterclass of empathy - but its tale of racism and friendship nonetheless makes it an unchallenging winner with an almost artificial feel. Its intentions are pure, but Green Book is so obvious its victory feels quite hollow.
