Every Coen Brothers Movie Ranked Worst To Best
8. The Man Who Wasn't There (2001)
Arguably the Coen Brothers' most overlooked film, The Man Who Wasn't There is an effective crime drama which stars Billy Bob Thornton as a barber called Ed Crane who finds himself drawn into a dark and twisted tale of embezzlement, blackmail and shady characters.
Thanks to the stylish black and white aesthetic of the film and Thornton's excellent performance as a man trapped in an impossible situation, The Man Who Wasn't There is a riveting watch from start to finish, offering up some thrilling plot twists and great supporting turns from Frances McDormand, Scarlett Johansson, James Gandolfini and Jon Polito.
It's not quite as emotionally rich as it could have been, but with Thornton giving it his all and the Brothers' script working wonders to keep the film engaging, it's still a stylish, clever crime flick and a great addition to the noir genre.
