Every Daniel Day Lewis Movie Performance Ranked From Worst To Best

4. A Room With A View (1985)

If you want to see DDL at his most brilliantly sniveling, then A Room with a View is a must-see.

It would've been easy for him to play-up the arrogance of his intolerable Cecil Vyse to campy levels, but characteristically, he avoids cliches and manages to make his buffoon at least feel like a well-rounded one.

Merchant Ivory movies have a reputation for being unbearably stuffy productions, but this is ultimately anything but, with Helena Bonham Carter, Maggie Smith and Judi Dench bringing plenty to the table.

It may be a little on the slow side, but the visuals are gorgeous and, again, it's a great movie even if you're not fond of period fare.
