For a long time, it looked like the next project for Jared Leto's Joker would be a team-up with Harley Quinn, but Warner Bros have given her her own project in Birds Of Prey and announced their conviction to develop a project for Leto.

Despite misgivings about the character and the emergence of the Origin movie with Joaquin Phoenix, Leto remains contracted and there is enough potential there to justify another appearance.

Will It Happen?

Warner Bros say yes, which is both bold and surprising. The problem, however, is that the Joker is less interesting without Batman - as he's said himself, the Dark Knight completes (and defines) him. So how they'd spin this one successfully remains to be seen. At the very least they need a director who will reign Leto's performance in a little.

And if they made something like Death In The Family set before Batman v Superman (and with limited Batman involvement), it'd become a legitimately great idea.
