Every DCEU Film Ranked From Worst To Best

2. The Suicide Squad

Wonder Woman 2017
Warner Bros. Pictures

If there's one word to sum up James Gunn's eagerly anticipated sequel it would be... joyous.

It's an utterly hysterical, giddily creative and obscenely enjoyable blast that delivers one subversive, wickedly smart scene after another and never stops coming up with new, unexpected ways to entertain the living daylights out of you.

Ultimately, it culminates in one of the greatest final acts in superhero movie history, thus cementing its status as the DCEU's second great movie (and it's about time).

With his visually stunning direction and beautifully-written script, James Gunn is unquestionably the film's MVP but the fantastic ensemble cast also deserve special praise, for they do absolutely incredible work, especially Idris Elba and Margot Robbie.

The film isn't a complete home run. Peter Capaldi is heavily under-utilised, the film occasionally feels frivolous and the second act sometimes drags, but it compensates many times over for these issues. It ends flawlessly and it does actually have some nice character scenes and some pretty haunting third act reveals, so it's not all style and no substance.

Insane, inventive, messed-up yet beautiful and just delightful all around, The Suicide Squad is arguably 2021's finest blockbuster yet and a triumph for all involved.
