New Hollywood embraced darkness, realism, and violence in a way that films to that point hadn't. Films like Apocalypse Now, Taxi Driver, and The Godfather rose from the ashes of Old Hollywood, ushering in a beautiful new era.
Horror grew into a powerhouse, with Rosemary's Baby, The Omen, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween and The Exorcist (THE horror film) robbing millions upon millions of film-goers of their sleep.
