Every George A Romero Movie Ranked Worst To Best

9. Knightriders

dawn of the dead
United Film Distribution Company

One of Romero’s least typical pictures, this story of a medieval re-enactment troupe and the pressures they face was released between Dawn Of The Dead and Creepshow. It didn’t do any business theatrically which is a shame because it comes across as one of Romero’s most personal and intimate films.

Replace “medieval re-enactment troupe” with “independent filmmakers” and you have the story of Romero’s life at this point in his career – it’s all about a tight-knit group struggling to pay the bills while chasing their dreams. Do you choose to remain independent and penniless or do you follow your friends and go to L.A. seeking stardom?

Knightriders is also one of Romero’s lesser known pictures, a fate due more to its box office fate than the quality of the film (opening in theaters a year before the Knight Rider TV series probably didn’t help either). It’s worth your time – where else are you going to see Ed Harris and Tom Savini playing medieval jousters?
