Captain America: Civil War always seemed destined to be the biggest box-office smash of 2016 given how important the story-line it adapted is in Marvel Comics. While it's not a faithful adaptation, it's deservedly become one of the MCU's most beloved films and was exactly what we needed after the bitterly disappointing Age of Ultron.

It isn't as good as Captain America: The Winter Soldier (still the MCU's peak) but it's not far off either. In general, this is a great comic book movie and the film's negatives largely come down to nit-pickings such as too much banter during the airport fight, some under-written motivations and Martin Freeman's dodgy American accent.

Action-packed, beautifully made and often funny, Civil War is great fun but it also has involving characters and gentle political themes that make it a very successful blend of an emotionally resonant story and entertaining superhero mayhem.
