Every James Cameron Film Ranked Worst To Best
5. Avatar (2009)
A decade on, this remains Cameron's most recent blockbuster. Some large numbers went into its production and some even larger ones grew from its success.
Most of JC's films are game-changers in some respect or another, and this was no different. Once again, he'd undertaken his most ambitious project yet. It revolutionised 3D cinema and visual effects, and grossed more than basically anything ever (Avengers: Endgame aside). Its content was also highly reflective of James Cameron's personal environmental stance, which is destined to have some reach when you place it in a Hollywood film watched by millions.
Giant sci-fi action franchises still benefit from the influence of this film today, including the MCU, whose break into the 3D market may never have happened if it weren't for Avatar. It's a very impressive spectacle, a big success, and contains an important message to boot. It's a shame that the characters don't quite have the depth seen in other Cameron films. This may well be rectified in the sequels. Who knows what he's brewing up for those.
