Every Liam Neeson Action Movie Ranked Worst To Best

2. Taken (2008)

Taken Liam Neeson
Fox

The film that started it all, Taken took the world by storm when it was released in 2008, despite not featuring anything that, on paper, makes it stand out amongst the countless action-thrillers that come and go every year without any real fuss. The reason it was so successful and worked so well was all down to Neeson.

A 90-minute burst of adrenaline, Taken stars Neeson as former CIA officer Bryan Mills, who's enjoying retirement only to have his fragile existence shattered when his daughter is kidnapped by human traffickers. What follows is a relentlessly bleak, tightly plotted thriller, complete with a speech heard around the world.

Yes, Taken is best remembered for its "I don't know who you are" threat, but the joy of returning to the film in full is realising Neeson and director Pierre Morel live up to its promise of violence and revenge. It's a simple story, not particularly original, but over a decade later and it still packs a mean punch.
