Every M. Night Shyamalan Movie Ranked Worst To Best
7. The Visit (2015)
After a series of critical hits, Shyamalan landed here, attempting a comeback with a found footage horror that follows two kids who attempt to uncover why their creepy grandparents are acting so strangely.
It's by no means original and it loses points for predictability, but credit where it's due: Shyamalan feels decidedly reigned-in here, going through the motions to create a confident if obvious thriller he clearly had lots of fun making. He's not straining to make it, but it's still an assured display of tension.
In the vast catalogue of Shyamalan's many features, The Visit is a minor effort, neither particularly memorable nor daring, but it's unsettling and bracing enough to rank as one of his most purely entertaining yarns. From here, his resurgence would really kick into high gear.
