Every M. Night Shyamalan Movie Ranked Worst To Best

6. Old (2021)

Signs Mel Gibson
Universal

M. Night Shyamalan almost always has a great premise up his sleeve, and this recent hit may have his most delicious story ever: A group of people find themselves trapped on a beach that causes them to rapidly age. That's it.

Old is deceptive and fun, moving with the pace of a strong thriller and asking striking questions about mortality, family, love and loss in the process. It builds its mystery a bit too high for Shyamalan to stick the landing, but the build-up is so compelling and exciting it's tough not to be sucked into his vision.

With some of the best visuals of his career, Old struggles in its last act, but this is the kind of bold, utterly unique display that's so entertaining and assured it's hard to feel too bad it failed to make the final leap.
