Every Major MCU Movie Twist Ranked Worst To Best

5. Iron Man 3 - The Mandarin, AKA Trevor Slattery

The big twist of Iron Man 3 got some bad press, which was undeserved. It was a good idea, and that's the end of it.

Mandarin was Iron Man's deadliest foe, except he wasn't. He was Trevor Slattery, a washed out British actor with a drug addiction, who was manipulated by the propaganda swilling motives of the real villain of the piece, Aldrich Killian.

Many saw this as a violation of the classic character, but there is really no denying that it worked fantastically within the confines of the film. Both fake and real versions of this move re-imagining were a pleasure to watch due to Ben Kingsley doing what Ben Kingsley does best, and that's act brilliantly no matter what role he is given.

This was also the first major act of narrative misdirection to be performed within the MCU, and it appears to have gained a little more appreciation now that some time has passed. Likewise, the entire movie has also been received with a little more kudos. Mandarin purists rejoice! You now have Shang Chi to look forward to.
