Every MCU Villain Plot Ranked From Worst To Best
19. Handing Over Power To Dormammu - Kaecilius (Doctor Strange)
In 2016, Doctor Strange included one of the character's classic villains, though in this iteration Mordo didn't turn heel until after the end credits. Instead, the movie's antagonist for the most part was Kaecilius, a character even the die hard comics fans had trouble remembering.
Though Marvel Studios managed to secure the brilliant Mads Mikkelsen for the role, the Hannibal actor's talents were wasted on a character that saw minimal development throughout the movie. Everything he did was out of a blind devotion to Dormammu, the ruler of the Dark Dimension. This was really as shallow as the plot went in terms of Kaecilius.
Dormammu himself appeared once Mikkelsen's character had been defeated, but with just the ambition to take the Earth to his home, seemingly for the sake of it. Doctor Strange was ultimately able to utilise the time stone in a creative and different final battle, but Dormammu wasn't truly defeated.
He promised to leave Earth alone in exchange for being released from Strange's infinite time loop, but are we supposed to accept that the giant, powerful cosmic being wouldn't regroup and launch another attack on the planet or another world at some point? It seems strange to call it a victory when Dormammu is still out there potentially terrorising worlds all over the galaxy.
