Obediah Stane was Tony Stark's mentor and father figure, a genius inventor in his own right who helped run Stark Industries but carried with him a greater need for real power.

After Tony became Iron Man, Stane set out to create his own super suit, with the goal of making it bigger and better than Stark's. In doing so, he became Iron Monger, and used his desire for power to try and destroy Tony and take over his company once and for all. With the suit, he was too strong for Tony alone, and had created the ultimate weapon.

Despite its inability to fly too high, Stane's suit made him a dangerous monster, able to lift cars and fly with ease. He was killed before he could cause any lasting damage.
