6. Blade II
We don't know what it is about superhero movies, but for some reason, the second one is always the best one (Iron Man 2 and Thor: The Dark World being notable exceptions). That is certainly the case with Blade II, the magnificent sequel that handed the reins to Guillermo del Toro.
But how does one up the ante of the already action-packed Blade? Blade II achieves this by introducing the Reapers, creatures so consumed with insatiable bloodlust that they prey on vampires as well as humans. In true sequel fashion, Blade needs to team up with his old enemies, the vampire council, if he wants to beat them.
Between this and the two good Hellboy movies, Guillermo del Toro has already proven he can make fantastic comic book films. If any director deserves a major tentpole movie, it's del Toro!
