Every R-Rated Marvel Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Deadpool
Fox really should be heartily congratulated for making an R-Rated comic book movie that actually made some money, but their most inspired move was casting Ryan Reynolds as the character he'd already failed as and handing him creative control of the movie. At least partly, anyway.
Despite the fact that he's been in a shocking number of poor comic book movies (he honestly looked a bit cursed there for a while), Reynolds is phenomenal as Wade Wilson. He understands the character perfectly and that's all Deadpool had to realyl do to win some praise.
It's far from a perfect film - it has serious writing issues, the villains are terrible and everything that isn't Deadpool could have been a bit better - but as a showcase for Reynolds as Deadpool, it's stunningly good. His performance is hilarious, outrageous and clever, despite the vulgarity of some of his material and that's an easy substitute for the innovation people wrongly claim the film brought to the table.
