Every Ridley Scott Movie Ranked Worst To Best

4. Black Hawk Down (2001)

The first thing you notice about Black Hawk Down - much like The Martian - is its cast. Ewan McGregor, Josh Hartnett, Tom Hardy, Jason Isaacs, Orlando Bloom, Sam Shepherd and more lead the carnage, as Ridley Scott tells a detailed (if factually lenient) account of the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia.

Black Hawk Down is the kind of movie everyone's heard of, but perhaps not enough have seen. One of the more underrated war films of the 2000s, the drama tells its story from the perspective of numerous U.S soldiers who fought in the conflict and were continuously caught between moral ambiguity, loyalty and confusion.

From a direction standpoint, it's one of Scott's most assured projects. Despite everything going on and the legions of characters populating proceedings, the movie refuses to feel overstuffed or hard to follow, and thanks to the intensity of the battle sequences, the top-tier cast and Scott's confident production, Black Hawk Down is more than deserving of a spot this high on the list.
