Every Saw Movie Ranked Worst To Best

7. Saw 3D

Saw III
Lionsgate

Also known as Saw: The Final Chapter, Saw 3D is the most over-the-top instalment in the franchise. Everything here was Saw, but louder.

The performances, the gore, the final act twist, and obviously the utilisation of 3D itself; it all felt a little cheesy, a little 'knowing', and a little as if the film was in on the joke that this was purposely over-the-top as a way to supposedly wrap the franchise up.

Here, we have Detective Hoffman looking to kill Jill Tuck - John Kramer's wife - in order to stop her proving that Hoffman is indeed the Jigsaw Killer. Of course, away from this plot thread, Hoffman also has several people involved in his latest 'game'.

Where that game is concerned, it's actually quite an interesting concept for the person at the centre of this. That person would be Bobby Dagen, an author who claims to have previously survived one of Jigsaw's games. This is all total BS, and Bobby has merely concocted a fake story in order to sell some books and get himself some notoriety. Despite that being an intriguing angle to take, the execution of this is a little fumbled.

Famously, Saw 3D would get to see the iconic beartrap used; Hoffman killing poor Jill with this most twisted device. And that's where the huge twist would come in, as Cary Elwes' Lawrence Gordon of the first Saw movie returned to reveal himself as one of three other Jigsaw apprentices - apprentices who were instructed to kill Hoffman should any harm ever come to Jill.
