Every Steven Soderbergh Movie Ranked Worst To Best
11. King Of The Hill (1993)
Soderbergh's third movie - and in basically every way his most conventional - King of the Hill proved that Sex, Lies and Videotape wasn't a one-off hit, and that Soderbergh really was a talent to watch.
A coming-of-age tale set during the Great Depression, the drama tells the story of Aaron (Jesse Bradford), a boy whose life is thrown into disarray after his mother (Lisa Eichhorn) falls ill and his father (Jeroen Krabbé) heads to the big city to find work.
Filmed with nostalgic sentimentality and acted to perfection by its staggering ensemble of up-and-comers (Bradford is joined by Adrien Brody, Lauryn Hill and Amber Benson), King of the Hill is a tragic tale of growing up early, as well as an affecting look at one of the most turbulent times in American history.
It's powerful stuff, and remains Soderbergh's single most underrated movie.
