Every Story Of Creepshow Season One Ranked
2. Times Is Tough In Musky Holler
This unfairly criticised entry is set in a dystopian reality, in which a zombie plague threatens the town of Musky Holler. The town’s corrupt lawmen, who have abused their power and exploited the zombies as a means of law enforcement, are taken captive in an underground bunker by the justice-hungry townspeople. In an elaborate act of revenge, the wrongdoers are hoisted up by chains, with only their heads exposed to a stadium of eager spectators above. Their unjustly displaced predecessors, now the undead, are free to settle the score in the most satisfying and gruesome way.
This is a great little vignette, and deserves a lot more praise than it gets. If there’s one reasonable criticism to be made, it’s the underuse of David Arquette – though he’s terrific with what he’s given. In this part, he could not be further from Dewey Riley in the Scream franchise. The gore effects are superb, but we should expect no less considering the names attached to the series. The original film featured some absolutely fantastic and memorable zombies, and the zombie design here does not disappoint. And more so than most entries in the series, this one nails the signature feel of a Creepshow story.
