Every Twist In The Saw Franchise - Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Jeff & Lynn Are Married, Amanda Is Being Tested (Saw III)

Saw III arguably piles a little too much plot and revelation on its plate during the final twist montage, but it's still one of the more convincing finales in the series.

First off, we learn that the two parallel test subjects throughout the film, Jeff (Angus Macfadyen) and Lynn (Bahar Soomekh), are actually married despite the film's attempts to convince us otherwise.

While Jigsaw promises to reveal to Jeff the person responsible for the "loss" of his child at the end of his test - his son was killed in a drink driving accident - the kicker is that, after Jeff murders Kramer, it's revealed that Kramer has actually locked Jeff's other child away, and he'll need to play another game in order to save her. Cruel and unfair? Sure, but entertaining.

The bigger twist in the context of the series, though, is that the real test was that of Amanda (Shawnee Smith), who Kramer deemed an unworthy successor to his legacy due to her creating unwinnable traps and murdering people in the most literal sense (because Kramer never did that, apparently).

It was a genuine surprise to see Amanda die so early in the series, and while in many ways it laid the groundwork for the near-endless run of Jigsaw apprentices and copycats, it nevertheless brought the original trilogy to a fitting close.

If this had been the end of the Saw franchise, it would've been a relatively dignified way to bow out. But alas, money trumps dignity every single time.
