Every Will Smith Movie Ranked Worst To Best

30. Wild Wild West (1999)

King Richard
Warner Bros.

On paper, Wild Wild West should have been amazing. A wicked comedy from Men In Black director Barry Sonnenfeld, combining Western action and surreal science-fiction, starring Smith and Kevin Kline as an odd couple pitted against Kenneth Branagh's vile Confederate supervillain?

Yeah, it should have been something at least fun, but any virtues the film may have had end up buried under tired genre clichés, over-the-top performances, and tepid humour that never reaches its potential.

In another life, Wild Wild West would have been something quite exciting, but in '99 it was a dud that finds Smith in perhaps his most coasting performance. Even the title song - which is the best part of the film - is better left untouched.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
