Fantastic Beasts: 10 Reasons Why The Crimes Of Grindelwald Is A Massive Disappointment
1. It's All Filler
The most infuriating thing of all about this film is that it is a blatantly cynical cash-grab that exists solely to waste the audience's time until the next installment.
Nothing of consequence happens in this film. The only thing it does is undo all of the consequences of the first film and then offer up a staggeringly stupid twist reveal in its final moments. Literally all of this could have been condensed to a five-minute prologue and audiences would have been saved a whole lot of time and trouble.
The initial plans for the Fantastic Beasts series was to make it a trilogy but shortly after completing the first film, WB announced that it would instead be a five-film series. Crimes of Grindelwald proves unequivocally that this was a decision made solely based on financial reasons, as this entire film is the cinematic equivalent of waiting two hours for an appointment, only for said appointment to then be canceled and postponed for another two years.
It isn't just all filler, its actively rubbing the audience's nose in it. Crimes of Grindelwald destroys decades-worth of good-will built up by Rowling's consistently incredible work, in the span of two hours. Years from now, regardless of what happens with the rest of the Fantastic Beasts films, this will be a film the vast majority of fans will be skipping entirely in their series rewatches.
