24. The Second Salemers

Mary Lou Barebones - possibly the greatest/silliest name in this entire franchise already - is introduced early to the film, standing leading a protest against magical activity under the banner of her militant group, The Second Salemers.

The group - otherwise known as the New Salem Philanthropic Society - are a pious, fanatical No-Maj society seeking to expose and destroy wizards and witches. Their banner shows a wand symbolically being snapped over a large fire, which is clearly a reference to the Salem Witch Trials (hence their name, too).

According to the new lore set up by JK Rowling, there is some suggestion that the NSPS may be descendants of Scourers - a group of evil magical vigilantes who were an active part of the Salem trials, but some of who evaded capture by integrating with No Majs when the Macusa was formed as a direct result of the trials.

Interestingly, the first shot of the interior of Mary Lou's house seems to show that her doors feature a particularly Wiccan looking symbol on their back, foreshadowing that one of the characters is not who they seem to be.
